The Gilete Masamune was the first model developed by Tatara and offers a refined approach to classic shaving. Its closed-comb geometry provides reduced blade exposure, promoting more controlled contact with the skin and making it suitable for frequent shaving.
The head has a gap of 0.63 mm between the blade and the plate and a negative exposure of −0.13 mm. This configuration reduces the direct sensation of the blade on the skin, allowing for a smooth shave without compromising cutting efficiency. It is a particularly suitable option for those who prefer a less aggressive razor or are new to traditional shaving.
The Masamune uses standard double-edged blades, also known as Double Edge blades, which are widely available and easy to replace. The closed-comb guard features small grooves along the edges, designed to guide the lather and limit blade exposure during each stroke.
The three-piece construction allows the cap, comb plate and handle to be separated for blade fitting and cleaning. Tatara’s unique interlocking system keeps the handle perpendicular to the head, distributes pressure symmetrically across the thread and reduces play between the components. This configuration helps to minimise blade vibration and keep the assembly correctly aligned.
Available in stainless steel or titanium, the Masamune offers two distinct experiences. The stainless steel version uses its own weight to follow the movement across the skin, whilst the titanium version is approximately 55 per cent lighter, providing greater agility and control over the pressure applied.
Manufactured in Portugal using CNC machining and hand-finished, the Masamune features simple lines and a matt finish. It comes in a natural cork box, which allows you to store and protect the razor between uses.
